Semi-circular bunds: Grasslands restoration

Leona Foundation has been implementing semi-circular bund construction as a proven grasslands restoration technique. Semi-circular bunds are earth structures that capture rainwater and allow it to infiltrate slowly, restoring vegetation on degraded land.

Working alongside community members, the team has been shaping and placing bunds across bare slopes, giving grasses and ground cover the chance to re-establish naturally.

This approach is low-cost, community-led, and highly effective in semi-arid landscapes โ€” making it a core part of Leona Foundation's climate action and restoration work in the region.
